Overview:
The Axel Group is seeking a Controller for our client's team in the hospitality and restaurant industry. This organization is a growing hospitality/restaurant business seeking an experienced financial leader to oversee its accounting operations. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in finance and accounting within multi-unit hospitality or restaurant environments, contributing to the company’s financial health and strategic growth.

Responsibilities:

• Oversee all day-to-day accounting and financial operations for the organization.
• Manage month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closing processes.
• Prepare and analyze monthly financial statements, including profit and loss statements, balance sheets, and cash flow reports.
• Manage accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, payroll accounting, and bank reconciliations.
• Monitor cash flow, deposits, credit card transactions, and banking activities.
• Maintain accurate accounting records across multiple locations or entities.
• Develop and implement accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
• Prepare financial reports and provide analysis to ownership and senior management.
• Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning.
• Analyze restaurant-level performance metrics, including sales, labor costs, food, and beverage costs.
• Collaborate with operational teams to identify cost-saving opportunities and improve margins.
• Coordinate with external auditors, CPAs, tax professionals, and insurance providers.
• Ensure compliance with accounting standards and company policies.
• Lead, mentor, and develop accounting staff as needed.

Requirements:

• 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, with prior roles such as Controller, Assistant Controller, or Accounting Manager.
• Strong understanding of GAAP, financial reporting, and full accounting cycle management.
• Experience managing high-volume transactions across multiple units or locations preferred.
• Excellent Excel skills and familiarity with accounting/ERP software.
• Ability to analyze financial data and translate it into actionable insights.
• Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Preferable experience in the hospitality, restaurant, food & beverage, or multi-unit environment, especially involving food and beverage cost management, labor analysis, and restaurant profitability.

Compensation:
Salary range: Dependent on expereince ($150,000 - $200,000)
