The Axel Group is seeking a Legal Assistant to join our client’s team in Monmouth County, New Jersey. Our client is a well-established, mid-sized law firm with more than 60 years of experience providing sophisticated legal counsel to businesses, organizations, and individuals throughout the region. The firm offers a broad range of practice areas and is particularly well regarded for its work across corporate and business law, real estate and development, land use, environmental, construction, and litigation matters. This position will provide administrative and legal support within either the firm’s Real Estate or Environmental Law team, depending on the candidate’s experience and background. The ideal candidate has prior experience working within a law firm, strong document preparation and organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines while providing a high level of support to attorneys and clients.
Key Responsibilities

  • Provide day-to-day administrative and legal support to attorneys within the Real Estate or Environmental Law practice
  • Prepare, format, proofread, and revise legal documents, correspondence, agreements, applications, closing documents, and other materials
  • Open, maintain, organize, and close electronic and physical client and matter files
  • Manage attorney calendars, meetings, appointments, closings, and important deadlines
  • Coordinate and communicate with clients, opposing counsel, consultants, governmental agencies, lenders, title companies, real estate professionals, and other outside parties
  • Prepare and electronically file documents with courts, governmental agencies, regulatory authorities, and other applicable parties
  • Assist attorneys with document collection, organization, production, and transaction or matter-related materials
  • Support real estate transactions and closings, including coordinating title commitments, surveys, payoff statements, closing documents, and post-closing materials, as applicable
  • Assist with environmental applications, permits, regulatory submissions, correspondence, and related documentation, as applicable
  • Prepare materials for client meetings, closings, hearings, depositions, and other proceedings
  • Track deadlines and maintain accurate case, transaction, and matter records
  • Assist with new matter intake, time entries, expense reports, invoices, and other administrative documentation
  • Provide general administrative support and assist with special projects as needed
Qualifications
  • 1-3+ years of experience working within a law firm environment
  • Previous experience supporting attorneys within real estate, environmental, land use, litigation, or a related practice area preferred
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills with exceptional attention to detail
  • Strong document preparation, formatting, and proofreading abilities
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments, priorities, and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word and Outlook; Excel experience preferred
  • Professional demeanor with strong client-service and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with attorneys and other team members
