The Axel Group is seeking an experienced Superintendent to join our client's team. This individual will lead and manage construction activities on complex life sciences, pharmaceutical, laboratory, and advanced manufacturing projects, ensuring projects are executed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with stringent quality and regulatory requirements.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in life sciences or highly technical construction environments, with experience coordinating subcontractors, vendors, and project teams from preconstruction through startup, commissioning, and closeout.
Responsibilities
- Lead and coordinate day-to-day construction activities across assigned trades and project scopes.
- Oversee subcontractors, vendors, and field personnel to ensure project goals, milestones, and quality expectations are achieved.
- Manage construction activities within highly regulated life sciences, pharmaceutical, laboratory, or advanced manufacturing environments.
- Maintain a strong site safety culture and ensure compliance with OSHA, client-specific, and project-specific safety requirements.
- Monitor project quality, schedule, manpower, and overall field execution.
- Review and interpret construction drawings, specifications, schedules, and project documentation.
- Support preconstruction planning, procurement, construction, startup, commissioning, and project closeout.
- Coordinate complex MEP, process, utility, equipment, and specialty construction activities as required.
- Conduct regular site inspections, quality control reviews, safety walks, and progress assessments.
- Prepare daily reports documenting manpower, progress, site conditions, deliveries, and potential project issues.
- Coordinate material procurement and deliveries to support project schedules.
- Evaluate field changes, RFIs, change requests, and subcontractor issues.
- Work closely with Project Managers, Engineers, clients, vendors, and subcontractors to resolve field issues and maintain project momentum.
- Assist with startup, commissioning, qualification, and turnover activities when required.
- Ensure construction activities comply with project specifications, applicable codes, client standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Participate in required client and site-specific safety training.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field preferred; equivalent construction experience will be considered.
- 5+ years of construction/project delivery experience.
- Experience working on life sciences, pharmaceutical, laboratory, biotech, healthcare, advanced manufacturing, or other highly technical projects strongly preferred.
- Proven ability to lead construction sites, subcontractors, vendors, and field teams.
- Strong understanding of construction safety, quality control, scheduling, and project execution.
- Experience coordinating complex MEP and/or specialty systems preferred.
- Familiarity with startup, commissioning, turnover, or qualification processes is a plus.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, schedules, and project documentation.
- Strong communication, organizational, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently while effectively coordinating with project teams and clients.
Compensation:
Salary range up to $175,000 annually, depending on experience and qualifications.
Additional Details:
This position is considered safety-sensitive and requires compliance with site safety training and regulations. Extended site visits and overnight stays may be necessary depending on project location and scope.
