Overview:
The Axel Group is seeking an Estimator for our client's team. This growing specialty commercial contractor specializes in outdoor and specialty construction projects such as pools, water features, hardscape, site amenities, shade structures, and exterior environments. Based in Houston, the company serves multifamily, hospitality, public, and mixed-use markets. This is an excellent opportunity for a recent graduate, construction intern, or early-career professional with 0–2 years of experience who is eager to develop their skills in construction estimating.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with quantity takeoffs and preparing project estimates
  • Review construction drawings, specifications, and project documents
  • Research material, subcontractor, and supplier pricing
  • Help solicit and evaluate subcontractor proposals
  • Prepare bid and proposal packages
  • Document assumptions, inclusions, exclusions, and alternates
  • Identify scope gaps and potential cost issues
  • Maintain accurate estimating files and pricing data
  • Collaborate closely with estimators, preconstruction teams, operations, vendors, and subcontractors

Requirements:

  • 0–2 years of construction, estimating, or preconstruction experience
  • Construction-related internship or co-op experience a plus
  • Degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, Mathematics, or related field preferred
  • Ability to read and interpret basic construction drawings
  • Basic understanding of construction methods and procedures
  • Strong mathematical, analytical, and organizational skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel
  • High attention to detail with a willingness to learn

Compensation:
Salary up to $70,000 annually, based on experience
