Overview:
The Axel Group is seeking an HR Generalist for our client's team. This company operates in the construction industry and is looking for a dedicated HR professional to support all human resources functions within a dynamic operational environment. The role offers an opportunity to contribute to HR initiatives across office and field operations, ensuring compliance and fostering a positive workplace culture.
Responsibilities:
- Manage the full recruitment process, including sourcing, interviewing, hiring, and onboarding employees across office and field locations.
- Coordinate new hire paperwork, background screenings, employment documentation, and system setup.
- Process employee separations, including offboarding activities, final payroll coordination, and benefits administration.
- Administer payroll for salaried, hourly, and union employees, ensuring accurate wage classifications and compliance with labor laws.
- Maintain employee records, HR databases, and confidential personnel files.
- Develop, update, and implement HR policies, procedures, and employee handbook materials.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment regulations, including wage laws, leave policies, and employment verification.
- Oversee employee benefits administration, including health insurance, retirement plans, and leave programs.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for employee relations, guiding workplace investigations and conflict resolution.
- Support performance management initiatives, including reviews and coaching managers.
- Coordinate safety-related documentation and workers' compensation claims in collaboration with operational leadership.
- Identify and implement process improvements for HR operations and reporting.
- Provide administrative support to leadership and cross-functional teams as needed.
Requirements:
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive HR experience, ideally in a standalone or small-team environment.
- Experience supporting construction, engineering, industrial, manufacturing, or similar industries is preferred.
- Strong knowledge of federal and state employment laws and HR best practices.
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field preferred; equivalent experience considered.
- Professional HR certification (SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, or SPHR) is a plus.
- Experience with HRIS and payroll systems.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel and Word.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to handle confidential information professionally.
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
Compensation:
Salary up to $85,000.00 annually.
