Job Title: Construction Superintendent

The Axel Group is seeking an experienced Construction Superintendent to take the lead on a fast-paced project in Poughkeepsie, NY over the next 12 to 15 weeks. This individual will be responsible for ensuring seamless day-to-day operations on site - keeping subcontractors aligned, managing material deliveries and installations, and maintaining clear project documentation.

This Construction Superintendent will be on site Monday through Friday, acting as the central point of coordination for all field activities. This includes overseeing scheduling, quality control, and safety compliance, while driving the project forward to meet critical deadlines and budget targets.

The ideal candidate will bring prior experience managing commercial, restaurant, or light industrial construction projects, and should be comfortable providing hands-on direction in the field. Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills are essential for success in this role.

Job Summary
The Contract Construction Superintendent oversees all field operations on assigned projects, ensuring compliance with construction documents, safety standards, schedules, and company values. This role requires real-time coordination of field activities, supervision of subcontractors, and proactive problem-solving to keep projects on time and within budget.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee all jobsite construction activities and ensure adherence to approved plans, specifications, and safety standards
  • Responsible for daily opening and closing of jobsites
  • Ensure closing procedures are followed by securing the site and performing safety inspections
  • Develop and maintain detailed construction schedules; make real-time adjustments to meet milestones and deadlines
  • Coordinate with subcontractors, suppliers, and other stakeholders to support seamless workflow and efficient resource allocation
  • Monitor and control project budgets; identify cost-saving opportunities and minimize potential overruns
  • Maintain knowledge of scheduled delivery dates for critical-path material and equipment
  • Collaborate with the project management team and provide progressive updates while addressing challenges
  • Function as an agent of the company to clients, subcontractors, and stakeholders by modeling company standards and values
  • Maintain accurate, up-to-date project documentation, including daily reports, drawings, safety records, and change orders
  • Implement safety protocols, conduct inspections, and perform quality control on the jobsite
  • Identify potential risks and proactively implement mitigation measures
  • Ensure punch lists are completed in a timely manner
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Knowledge and ability to oversee construction jobsite activities in alignment with approved plans, specifications, and safety standards
  • Strong scheduling skills, including the ability to make real-time schedule adjustments to meet milestones and deadlines
  • Ability to coordinate effectively with subcontractors, suppliers, and internal/external stakeholders
  • Experience monitoring and controlling project budgets, including identifying cost-saving opportunities and reducing overruns
  • Knowledge of managing scheduled delivery dates for critical-path material and equipment
  • Ability to maintain accurate project documentation (daily reports, drawings, safety records, and change orders)
  • Strong safety and quality-control mindset, including conducting jobsite inspections
  • Ability to identify risks and implement proactive mitigation measures
  • Ability to ensure punch lists are completed timely

Compensation

  • Salary required: $90,0000 - $115,000
