The Axel Group is seeking a Construction Project Manager to join our client’s team in the DMV area. This reputable GC/CM partners with property developers, building owners and business operators to generate the best possible results from commercial real estate assets. The firm specializes in development, design, and construction to expand, upgrade, or retrofit purpose-driven environments.
The Construction Project Manager will oversee all phases of assigned construction projects, from planning and budgeting to execution and closeout. This role ensures projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to quality standards while maintaining compliance with safety regulations and client expectations.
All job sites are within 1.5 to 2 hours of Washington D.C., therefore the Construction Project Manager must be local to Washington D.C., Maryland, or Virginia. When this individual is not required to be on site, the PM can work from home remotely.
Key Responsibilities
- Project Planning & Scheduling
- Develop project plans, schedules, and budgets in coordination with stakeholders
- Establish timelines, milestones, and deliverables, ensuring alignment with contract requirements
- Budget & Cost Management
- Prepare and monitor project budgets; track expenses and approve invoices
- Identify and resolve cost variances and change orders in a timely manner
- Team Leadership & Coordination
- Direct and coordinate activities of internal staff, subcontractors, and vendors
- Lead regular project meetings, provide updates, and resolve conflicts as needed
- Quality Control & Compliance
- Monitor construction progress to ensure adherence to design specifications and building codes
- Implement and enforce safety procedures in compliance with OSHA and company policies
- Client & Stakeholder Communication
- Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, architects, engineers, and regulatory agencies
- Provide regular progress reports and manage expectations
- Documentation & Closeout
- Maintain accurate records including contracts, change orders, permits, and inspection reports
- Oversee project punch list completion and final handover to the client
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience)
- 5+ years of experience managing commercial construction projects
- Restaurant, retail, or big box project experience, an added plus
- Proven track record in project budgeting, scheduling, and risk management
- Strong knowledge of construction methods, materials, and safety regulations
- Proficiency with project management software (e.g., Procore, MS Project) and MS Office Suite
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and leadership skills
- Combination of work from home and on-site work
- Ability to travel to job sites as required
Salary: $100 - 130,000 + benefits
