Project Accountant

We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Project Accountant to join our client’s team in Teterboro, NJ. This role is crucial for the financial success of their projects, ensuring accurate financial reporting, budget management, and compliance with regulatory requirements. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in accounting, with specific expertise in project accounting within the construction or engineering sectors.

Key Responsibilities:
Reports & Analysis:

  • Financial Reporting: Prepare and present regular financial reports to stakeholders, offering insights into project progress and financial status. Utilize these reports to identify potential risks and develop strategies for improvement.

  • Budgeting: Allocate and manage project budgets, ensuring alignment with financial goals and project requirements.

  • Revenue Recognition: Apply accounting standards and contractual terms to accurately recognize project revenue.

  • Cost Management: Track and analyze project costs, identifying opportunities for cost savings and efficiency improvements.

  • Forecasting: Develop financial forecasts using comprehensive economic data to guide decision-making and project planning.

Subcontractor Management & Compliance:

  • Compliance & Regulatory Oversight: Ensure that all projects comply with relevant laws and regulations, providing oversight and guidance to project teams.
  • Contract Enforcement: Assist in enforcing contract terms, ensuring that all parties meet their obligations.
  • Insurance & Bonds: Review insurance and bond documentation to mitigate risks associated with under-insured subcontractors.
  • Subcontractor Accounting: Approve pay requests and schedules of value, ensuring all required documents are in place before payments are released.

Other Accounting Responsibilities:

  • Invoicing: Manage the invoicing process, ensuring accuracy and timeliness in billing.
  • Accounts Receivable: Oversee accounts receivable, handling document releases, monthly billing, and payment status follow-ups.
  • Certified Payroll: Ensure compliance with payroll requirements, reviewing forms, and payroll information, and collaborating with monitoring agencies.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in project accounting, preferably in construction, engineering, or a similar industry.

  • Strong knowledge of financial reporting, budgeting, cost management, and compliance.

  • Proficiency in Procore or similar project accounting software.

  • Excellent attention to detail, with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.

  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to present financial information clearly and effectively.

Salary:

  • $95,000 - $110,000
